Employee development and resilience is vital to how police officers recover from constant secondary trauma sustained in the job of law enforcement.  The Tempe Police Department, as part of the five key initiatives, recognizes that our biggest asset is our people; therefore, we invest in their mental and physical well-being throughout their careers and lives.

Officer wellness is broken down into three distinct categories.  Professional development, stress management and human performance.

Advisor Program Det Miller

“I was excited to be a part of the program and be a resource for someone new to the department and policing. All the little things I never knew as a rookie and learned over the past 13 years, I tried to pass along. Something as simple as setting up our retirement accounts, discussing vacation time accruals, the right questions to ask during an interview or how to best write reports are some of the topics we have discussed. I hope as our careers continue and the relationship, he and I have formed will allow him to feel comfortable coming to me with some of the harder aspects of this career. I know I have dealt with some tough times and would have loved a relationship like that to lean on when I needed it.”
