The Strategic Management and Innovation Office (SMIO) leverages the power of innovation and strategic management to bring about better outcomes for the Tempe community and region.
Our role is to help City leaders, staff and partners assess challenges, generate impactful strategies, develop strategic partnerships, and deliver measurable results.
SMIO functions as an in-house consulting and facilitation team by working with City departments and diverse community, business and academic members to research, design, and establish solutions and strategies that make progress toward Tempe’s strategic priorities. Our internal consultancy assists City departments in making strategic, operational, and policy changes that advance Tempe as a national model for a modern city.
Serving as facilitators, project managers, data analysts, researchers, and designers, SMIO delivers programs and services to build organizational capacity for incremental innovations, strategic outcomes and data-informed governance.
