The Tempe Black Employee Alliance helps connect, influence, empower and strengthen the relationships of Black employees with each other and city staff at-large, with the goal of fostering inclusion.
Black employees need a safe space and support structure to have conversations about diversity. We are acutely aware that past, present and future decisions, occurring in meetings, conversations, recruitment, appointments, promotions, disciplinary action, etc., may result in policies and practices that have had, or may have, a deleterious impact on our collective livelihood and well-being.
The Tempe Black Employee Alliance creates networking and mentoring opportunities along with providing an oasis of comfort and community in an often exclusionary work environment.
The Tempe Black Employee Alliance serves as a resource, advocate, and partner with the City Manager’s office and executive leadership, as we endeavor to recommend policies and practices that could construct more inclusive and equitable outcomes, and seeks to be included in conversations with City of Tempe leadership when deciding policy and systemic changes.
TBEA works to achieve its purpose through our three programmatic pillars: Social Justice, Community Engagement and Education and Mentoring.
