The Technical Code Advisory Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of Chapter 8 of the Tempe City Code, Buildings and Building Regulations, and the technical codes. 

The Board is seeking applicants certified as a 

  • mechanical engineer, 
  • commercial mechanical inspector, 
  • mechanical plans examiner, 
  • commercial plumbing inspector, 
  • plumbing plans examiner, 
  • electrical engineer, 
  • commercial electrical inspector, 
  • electrical plans inspector,
  • mechanical contractor,
  • plumber, or
  • plumbing contractor.

As a Board member, you will be responsible for reviewing, writing amendments, and implementing and disseminating the technical code when the new code cycle needs to be adopted. This process occurs every six years. This process will commence again in 2024 with implementation around early 2025.

Qualified, interested individuals are encouraged to apply to serve on the Board. As soon as the member is appointed by the Mayor and City Council at a regular meeting, their term of office would begin immediately, with an expiration date of Dec. 31, 2025 or Dec. 31, 2026 depending on the seat being filled.  The member would be eligible to serve an additional three-year term if reappointed in Dec. 2025 .or Dec. 2026.
