As part of the 2015 Tempe Transportation Master Plan PDF, approved by the City Council, the overall Tempe bicycle network was branded BIKEiT (Bike in Tempe). The goal is to connect existing facilities, major destinations, neighborhood, downtown Tempe and ASU. Bike boulevards are off-street pathways and streets with less traffic and lower speeds to allow for more comfortable and convenient bicycle riding. Bike boulevards can be created by using signage and pavement markings or adding landscape and hardscape. In 2017, four BIKEiT routes were launched: Brake, Pedal, Handlebars and Spoke. A pdf map of the routes can be found here.
