The mission of the Water Resources Section is to efficiently manage Tempe’s water supplies and effectively plan for the community’s future water needs. The Section administers Tempe's water rights and contracts, water accounting and assured water supply planning.

The Section also oversees the Water Conservation Program, Tempe Town Lake and Flood Irrigation.
Water Conservation offers a variety of programs, educational opportunities, publications and financial incentives to adopt efficient water use practices at homes and businesses in Tempe.
The Tempe Town Lake workgroup is responsible for maintaining lake water quality and quantity and operation and maintenance for the steel-gate dam and all associated infrastructure. This workgroup provides support for recreational activities and special events that occur on and at the lake.
Flood Irrigation provides flood irrigation services and delivery to historic areas of the city.
