City of Tempe, AZ
Home MenuHigh-Efficiency Toilet Rebate
The City of Tempe offers a rebate of 50% of the purchase price of a high-efficiency toilet (capped at $75 per toilet, up to two (2) toilet per home) that flushes no more than 1.28 gallons per flush and has been certified by the EPA WaterSense Program.
Toilets use about 24% of residential water use, the largest source of water use inside the home. By investing in an efficient toilet, you will save water every time you flush the toilet, up to 35 gallons of water per day. Water savings depend on the age of the existing toilet. Toilets sold prior to 1994 used 3.5 to 5.0 gallons per flush.
Please note, only two (2) toilets per house are applicable for the rebate. If you are new to the home or unsure of your eligibility, please contact Water Conservation by calling 480-350-8351 or by email conservation@tempe.gov prior to submitting the rebate form to determine if your home qualifies.
Rebate Application Checklist:
- Read the Rebate Terms and Conditions.
- Confirm that you are eligible to receive the rebate by calling 480-350-8351 or email conservation@tempe.gov.
- Find a high-efficiency toilet that flushes 1.28 gallons per flush or less. EPA WaterSense labeled toilets have been tested and certified to be efficient with water use while still providing equal or superior performance.
- Purchase the toilet and keep a copy of the original receipt.
- Install the toilet. The city recommends installation be performed by a qualified plumber and that sewer lines be cleaned at the time of installation (if they have not been cleaned in the last twelve months).
- Complete the Rebate Form.
- Consider if your project qualifies for another rebate. A separate application is required for each rebate.
The EPA WaterSense certifies toilets, faucets, showerheads, irrigation controllers, urinals and pre-rinse spray valves. The EPA ENERGY STAR® program also rates water use efficiency for appliances.
