Tempe offers a unique interactive assembly program about water conservation and our water resources to Tempe elementary schools, at no cost to the schools. This program is best suited for grades first through third. Tempe is excited to be partnering with the Environmental Education Exchange for the 2023-2024 school year. The Water Festival is a statewide program that instills a deeper understanding of water in the earth system and Arizona's water resources through a water festival event, curriculum unit and teacher professional development workshop. The curriculum for the Water Festival unit and festival activities are aligned to Arizona State Standards for science, mathematics, and social studies. 

Each summer, Tempe and Arizona Project WET recruits new teachers to participate in professional development and the Water Festival program. Please email conservation@tempe.gov or call 480-350-8351 to learn how to register your classroom.

Tempe helps schools create gardens with educational components. Receive grants up to $1,000 per unique project. To apply, schools must complete an application and include a proposed budget and garden plan. Educational institutions in the Tempe service area qualify for up to $3,000 toward the purchase price of irrigation efficiency supplies. 

1. Review the rebate terms and conditions.
2. Call 480-350-8351 or email conservation@tempe.gov to start the process.
3. Create a customized plan for technology and practices to increase efficiency. 
4. Pre-approval is required for all projects.
5. Have school representative schedule educational presentations with Tempe.
6. Purchase and install the recommended technology. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure proper installation and use of technology.
7. Complete the rebate form.
8. The applicant will be contacted to schedule an inspection of the installed technology. After the inspection is complete and any remaining application materials submitted, the application will be approved.
9. After approval, a check will be issued within six to eight weeks.

Tempe Water Utilities Division offers tours of our Water Treatment Plant and water quality lab for school groups. We are able to accommodate one tour per year, depending on staff availability.
