City of Tempe Municipal Volunteer Program

Computer Aide
Volunteers help reserve study room time and open study rooms; and assist library patrons using computers in the main floor computer commons area with simple computer issues such as setting up an e-mail account, sending documents to the printer, searching the internet, etc.

Shelving Assistants (7-12th graders and adults)
Volunteers serve in the shelf maintenance area of the library assisting with emptying book drops, checking in books, and re-shelving library materials. See student opportunities--library.

Youth Corps (Grades 6 through 12)
Student volunteers assist librarians in the Youth Library with tasks such as covering new books, cleaning and restocking computer carrels, re-shelving library materials, preparation of craft materials for story times, etc. See student opportunities--library.

Book Processor
Volunteers prepare new books for circulation; includes stamping, putting on covers, etc., repair damaged books, check media materials, etc.

Homebound Delivery Assistant
A volunteer or pair of volunteers deliver books to Tempe residents who are handicapped or elderly and cannot make it in to the library.
