Hardy Drive Neighborhood Traffic Calming Meetings - Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024

Join us to provide input on a large-scale traffic calming project along Hardy Drive between Baseline and Guadalupe roads. In response to residents’ concerns about vehicle speed, safety, traffic volume, and noise, the City has prepared alternatives for the corridor. The proposed improvements may include medians, removal of center left turn lanes, bicycle enhancements, pedestrian enhancements, and landscaping. Your feedback will help determine a preferred alternative for Hardy Drive. Public meetings were held Sept. 12, 2024.

Los Feliz Drive (Calle de Caballos from Elliot Road to McClintock Drive)  Neighborhood Traffic Calming Project

In response to neighborhood concerns regarding speeding on Los Feliz Drive, south of Elliot Road, city staff collected traffic data and conducted outreach to provide an opportunity for the community to give feedback on potential traffic calming improvements to Los Feliz Drive. Update June 2023: There was not enough neighborhood support to move forward with this project. 

A public meeting was held on Nov. 17, 2022 to present two possible solutions that would modify the street and potentially reduce speeds. 

• The first included various roadway striping options,  including bike lanes and/or sharrows
• The second was a longer-term option to install speed cushions on the remaining portion of Los Feliz Drive, north of Citation Lane.

The feedback received demonstrated general support for striping of bike lanes, while maintaining parking for all homes with driveways fronting the street (east and south side), and adding speed cushions. The striping has been completed.

The city has started the petition process for installation of speed cushions on the remaining portion of Los Feliz Drive between Elliot Road and Citation Lane.  Those properties within the process area provided input through May 4, 2023. Read what they said in April/May 2023 PDF.

9/2024: A traffic calming request for speed cushions along 5^th Street between Price Road and Evergreen Road was performed per Step 2 of the Tempe Neighborhood Traffic Calming Guidelines. The study results showed 5^th Street was eligible for traffic calming with neighborhood approval. Surveys were sent to the residents that would be affected by the installation of speed cushions asking them if they were in favor of or against the proposed installation. After receiving and verifying the votes, 5^th Street did not meet the required support for the installation of speed cushions.

9/2024: A traffic calming request for speed cushions along College Avenue between Apache Boulevard and Southern Pacific Railroad was performed per Step 2 of the Tempe Neighborhood Traffic Calming Guidelines. The study results showed College Avenue was eligible for traffic calming with neighborhood approval. Surveys were sent to the residents that would be affected by the installation of speed cushions asking them if they were in favor of or against the proposed installation.  After receiving and verifying the votes, College Avenue did not meet the required support for the installation of speed cushions.
