The Tempe Youth Transit Pass Program allows Tempe and Guadalupe kids ages 6 to 18 to ride all Valley Metro bus routes and light rail for free. Passes are available at the Tempe Transit Store, 200 E. Fifth St., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Public parking is located at 117 E. Fifth St.

Tempe is issuing free youth transit passes for the 2024/2025 school year.  Passes are valid June 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, and can be picked up at the Tempe Transit Store located at 200 E. Fifth Street (parking is available at 117 E. Fifth Street), weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A parent or guardian MUST be present, and proof of residency and a birth certificate is required. 

If you lose your pass, you can get a new pass (up to three in one year) by paying a $5 replacement fee. For a replacement pass, either the parent or youth can visit the Transit Store and no additional documentation is required.

If you attend Tempe, Marocs de Niza  or McClintock high schools AND LIVE IN TEMPE OR GUADALUPE, you can get your transit pass at the school. Go to the main office for more information and to get a registration form. If you get the pass at the school (not at the Transit Store), a parent does not need to be present nor is proof of residency or a birth certificate required. The school registrar will verify all the information.  

Requirements for people 17 and younger:

1) A parent or guardian and the child must ALL be present when registering for the program. 

2) A paper copy of your most recent utility bill (dated within the last 60 days) with a Tempe address. Acceptable utility bills include SRP, APS, Southwest Gas, City of Tempe, Cox Communications, Century Link, Direct TV, Dish Network, cell phone company, bank statement or a current statement from the Department of Economic Security (DES). Lease agreements are not acceptable forms of proof of residency. The bill must have the parent or guardian's name on it. 

3) Youth’s birth certificate. (The accompanying parent must be listed as the parent on the birth certificate.)

4) A valid driver’s license/photo ID of parent/guardian. 

5) If you are the step parent or legal guardian you must also bring a copy of your marriage license or state guardianship papers. Notarized guardianship papers are not acceptable proof of guardianship.

Requirements for people age 18:

1) A valid driver’s license, ID pass or US passport.

3) An 18 year old who lives at home with a parent or guardian may use the parent or guardian's utility bill as proof of address if they bring a birth certificate and the parent or guardian with them to get the pass.
