Tempe City Council adopted a citywide landfill diversion goal of 25 percent by Fiscal Year 2025-2026. To help reach that goal, in addition to the uncontained/bulk collection of green organic material, Tempe offers a green organics container for curbside collection in select Tempe areas. 

Why participate?

• It is convenient.
• Trim year-round without timing with your uncontained/bulk garbage collection.
• Containers are easy to roll and store.
• Frees up room in your garbage container.
• Manure and grass clippings can be included.
• Green organics are diverted from the landfill and are processed as compost for purchase. 
• Swap out additional garbage containers for green organics containers and save money. 

Cost

Each green organics container costs $6.24 per month.

Participation and signup information

At this time, only residents who live in the specific areas can receive this service.  Please call Tempe 311 at 480-350-4311 to verify if a property is within one of these areas prior to initiating service.

To initiate service in an eligible area, submit Green Organics Service Request Form or call 480-350-4311. Please allow up to two weeks for container delivery.

After clicking the Green Organics Service Request Form (below), in the box under "Select an issue" type the word "green."  Click on Green Organics Service Request Form and fill out the form.

You will receive a new, green container with a sticker on top that clearly shows what items can be placed in it. A complete list of acceptable green organics can be found here.
