More about the HPCC

HPCC serves the residents of Tempe and Guadalupe and is more than 20 years old. Tempe's HPCC was the first permanent facility built in Maricopa County specifically for the removal and proper disposal of household hazardous waste.

This sustainable program helps protect the environment by eliminating items from being poured into the wastewater collection system or storm drains and thrown into the municipal solid waste stream, which uses up more landfill space.

SWAP Area at HPCC

As of December 2023, more than 149,817 residential visits have been made to drop off items to be recycled, repurposed or reused at HPCC. Since 1999, there has been more than a 570% increase in participation, reflecting more than 419,439 pounds of waste collected just last year with a nearly 94.5% recycling rate; 21.5% of the weight collected last year was latex paint. Total weight diverted from the landfill and storm drains is more than 6,991,167 pounds of material.
