Over the 10 years since the voluntary SLiPP program has been in place, 1,940 service line repairs worth $5.3 million have been completed for the 5,000 Tempe homeowners participating in the program. While the program has been successful, program administration is moving to a private sector partner for efficiency and continued growth. Community members will be better served at a lower cost with this specialized vendor.
SLWA mailed information to Tempe residents, including steps current SLiPP participants need to take to continue coverage after that program ends. SLWA plan holders have access to a repair hotline that is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and repairs are performed by local, licensed and insured contractors that SLWA has identified in the area, including those contractors that were part of the SLiPP program. Tempeans can learn more about these optional plans by visiting RepairsTempe.com or calling toll-free 1-844-257-8795.
Tempe will continue to charge SLiPP customers until they enroll in SLWA. If customers do not join SLWA by Feb. 1, 2022, all remaining accounts will be canceled. Current Tempe SLiPP customers must transition to SLWA by Feb. 1 in order to have continuous coverage.
Tempe is still providing repairs under the SLiPP program until Jan. 31. if the homeowner is still enrolled; after Feb. 1, all SLiPP enrollments will be automatically cancelled. All current SLiPP enrollees who then enroll with SLWA will not have a waiting period before they are eligible for service. Any new enrollees with SLWA will have the standard 30 day wait period before they are eligible for service.
SLWA will save residents money with SLWA.
SLiPP coverage was $12/month and SLWA is $9.88/month for the first year and $10.98/month thereafter. SLWA provides higher maximum coverage vs. SLiPP. SLiPP coverage had an annual maximum of $5,000. SLWA coverage offers a maximum of $8,500 per call.
All warranties will be honored for existing customers. SLiPP plumbers are required to warranty their work for one year after repair. The current plumbers will still be under contract during the warranty period.
Coverage clarification:
It is normal for homes to have water pressure measured at between 30 psi and 80 psi (pounds per square inch). It depends on factors like how many fixtures are in the home. Under 30 psi is considered low water pressure. SLWA coverage includes remedies for pressures under 30 psi. Neither SLiPP nor SLWA would respond to a household in order to upgrade its water pressure if the pressure is between 30-80 psi. There must be a leak in order to trigger the insurance when water pressure is in the normal range.
