Surplus and Expired Medication Disposal

Picture of Med Return Container

The Tempe Police Department, the Tempe Coalition, and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office have partnered to establish a permanent surplus and expired medication disposal program, MedReturn.

Many times abused prescription or over-the-counter medications are obtained from surplus/expired items stored within the home medicine cabinet. It is also hazardous to flush these drugs as they can be harmful to our water table. Furthermore, Arizona ranks 6th highest in the nation for individuals 12 years and older misusing and abusing prescription drugs.

The MedReturn drop boxes will be available year-round to the public providing our Tempe community with a convenient, year round, anonymous and accessible means to safely and securely dispose of unused and expired medication.
