Criminal Investigation Bureau - Digital Forensic Unit

Digital Forensic Unit Detectives may become involved in homicide, missing persons, threats, fraud, theft, child pornography, drug use and trafficking or other incidents where a computer was used when a crime was committed. In addition, Forensic Unit Detectives assist in the collection and analysis of digital recorders, cell phones, GPS Units and other devices capable of storing electronic data.

Crimes committed over the Internet may fall under federal or state laws, or a combination of both. In addition, crimes may fall under the jurisdiction of multiple law enforcement agencies. The following information has been provided to assist the public in reporting various crimes that occur over the Internet.

Internet Crime Complaint Center

Crimes committed over the Internet can be reported directly to Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov). The Internet Crime Complaint Center is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center.

Missing and Exploited Children

 The Center for Missing and Exploited Children provides a website with resources for parents, child care providers and others. You can also file reports online if you have any information regarding children that are being exploited or placed in danger.

Internet Safety

 A website referenced on the Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Website is NetSmartz.Org. The NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational safety resource to teach kids and teens how to stay safer on the Internet. NetSmartz combines the newest technologies available and the most current information to create high-impact educational activities that are well received by even the most tech-savvy kids.
