The Tempe Police Department has a total 6 School Resource Officer’s assigned to 6 Tempe schools in the Tempe Elementary School District and Tempe Union High School District. SRO’s play a vital role in the day to day safety of students, staff and visitors. Many of the SRO’s who serve under Arizona Department of Education School Safety grant, conducts 180 hours of classroom instruction with 25-30 youth in each class. SRO’s also attend an average of 8 athletic events and 5 social events at the school each year.
SRO’s engage with students in various capacities and conduct an average of 18 other contacts per day at their school. “My Brother’s Keeper”, a program designed to divert juveniles from the juvenile court system (189 referrals this past school year) and change behavior though restorative justice means. This program allows our SRO’s to work closely with our Care 7 Youth Specialists, Care 7 Victim Services, and the City of Tempe Courts in addressing youth diversion programs which can have a positive impact on our kids.

What is Start With Hello? - Start with Hello Week is a call to action week for an opportunity for students to engage their school communities in activities that celebrate social inclusiveness through classroom activities, school-wide activities, and student activities. These activities are designed to reduce Social Isolation and increase connectedness .
