Making Space: An Equity Study for Parks & Recreation
Tempe’s parks and recreation spaces are for everyone. Making Space: An Equity Study for Tempe Parks and Recreation is an equity-based approach to evaluating parks and recreation amenities, facilities and programs. The results of the study were crafted from hundreds of touchpoints with the community, comprehensive research, evaluation of existing data and an internal audit.
The evaluation culminated in the creation of Equity Priority Zones, which can be identified here, as well as an Equity Investment Matrix and geo-specific strategies for implementing the goals and strategies gleaned from the study.
The study is built on six guiding principles, each with their own goals and strategies that will guide the stewardship of city parks and programs for the next decade. These principles are:
- Spaces and Programs for All
- Prioritize Equity
- Active, Vibrant and Diverse Communities
- Customized Experiences
- Expanded Access
- Safe Environments
