Tempe is known for its progressive response to addressing homelessness. The city is continually exploring a mix of shelter and housing options to serve those in need and assist in ending their homelessness. These efforts include:

  • Owning bridge shelters, including Sue's Espacio, to provide shelter for those experiencing homelessness in Tempe.
  • Working within the regional shelter network to connect individuals and families to shelter and resources
  • Operating federally-funded rental voucher programs through the Tempe Housing Authority to offset rents for income-qualified households, people who are homeless and others in need
  • Expanding affordable housing through the city's Affordable Housing Strategy and Hometown for All initiatives
  • Partnering with the nonprofit Tempe Coalition for Affordable Housing to expand affordable housing options in Tempe
