The City of Tempe is a Read On Community. Read On creates communities of practice and collaboration focused on early literacy with an outcome of third grade reading proficiency as the critical goal. Read On Tempe is a collaborative effort endeavoring to create a seamless early literacy continuum from birth to third grade that provides families with appropriate programs and services at every step along their child’s path to becoming a competent reader.

Read on Tempe is committed to increasing the confidence, skills and knowledge of parents so they can take an active role in their child’s early literacy development and ensuring that all children in Tempe have access to books in their homes. We have a broad base of public, private, civic, philanthropic and education partners who are working together to ensure all our children can become proficient readers. We are doing this through our shared vision and multi-strategy approaches that focus on school readiness, early grade success, family engagement, and summer learning loss.
