CARE 7 has a long history of utilizing community volunteers as part of a hybrid response model. Volunteers partner with CARE 7 staff and are dispatched out to assist and support Tempe residents at the time of crisis or a traumatic event. In addition to the mobile crisis unit, CARE 7 utilizes community volunteers at our family advocacy center.  Volunteers at the FAC help with daily operations and assist with victims of crime occasionally.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Level one fingerprint card (required).
  • CPR Certification (required).
  • The ability to easily build rapport with strangers.
  • Remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Takes direction well.
  • Commit to two to three shifts per month.

Volunteer Process:

  • Complete an application.
  • Be offered an interview based on application.
  • Complete three ride-alongs on the mobile crisis unit.
  • Reference check.

New volunteers are then enrolled in the Regional Crisis Interventionist and Situational Awareness Trainings. The trainings cover topics and situations that are frequently encountered by CARE 7 staff and volunteers.
