CARE 7 Crisis Response Unit
CARE 7 provides 24-hour crisis intervention services as a part of the 911 emergency call system with Tempe Fire Medical Rescue and the Tempe Police Department. CARE 7 provides on-scene emotional support and follow up to community members facing trauma or crisis. The unit fully focuses on the emotional and practical needs of the family and/or individual. As an intern you will always be paired with a staff person. You will be responsible for writing reports and in the second semester you may run calls with staff guidance.
Case Management
CARE 7 provides case management services to clients experiencing high needs and repeated calls to 911. The case management team works with each client to set individual goals, resolve a variety of barriers, address client needs, and decrease their use of emergency services. As an intern you will be paired with a case manager to shadow on a regular basis. You may carry a small caseload, contact clients by phone and make home visits.
Victim Services
Victim Advocates are available daily to provide confidential, ongoing support and advocacy to victims of crime in Tempe. Advocates respond to questions the victim may have, anticipate the victim’s needs, and provide support through the criminal justice system. VS276 is a mobile unit that responds to crime calls allowing us to begin advocacy services immediately following the incident. As an intern you will be assigned to shadow an advocate or assigned to VS276. Both placements provide opportunity for direct client contact, research and group support work.
Veteran Services
CARE 7 provides service coordination and navigation for all U.S. military veterans, regardless of discharge status or VA eligibility. A trained Military Navigator is available at no cost to walk veterans through services that meet basic needs, such as housing, employment, benefits, mental health, substance abuse services, and counseling. As an intern you will attend veteran's court, shadow the military navigator and have direct contact with clients.
Youth Specialists
In partnership with the Tempe Union High School District and Tempe Elementary School District, CARE 7 provides Youth Specialists at each of the six high schools. Youth Specialists provide students emotional and social support at no cost for a variety of issues in both individual and group settings. As an intern you will work alongside the Youth Specialist at your school meeting with students, assisting with activities on campus and running support groups. The Youth Specialist program only accepts BSW and MSW students and is only available for the consecutive semesters of fall and spring to provide consistency to our clients.
