Building A Safer City

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategically manipulates urban, architectural, and landscape designs to discourage criminal activity. CPTED is a sustainable approach to crime that aims to improve quality of life by minimizing criminal opportunities. Through proper design and effective use of building spaces, the City of Tempe can create a safer place for businesses and residents.

Empowering Local Communities

Tempe is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. Businesses and residents who are interested in updating their properties for crime prevention purposes may be eligible to meet one-on-one with a certified expert who can:

  • Conduct a free site assessment and give personalized recommendations
  • Guide property owners through the city permitting process
  • Ensure plan changes receive expedited review and approval by the City
