Learn how to earn the City of Tempe patch!

How to earn the patch:

To earn the patch, each Girl Scout must complete at least one activity in each of four city-specific categories – history, government, community and sustainability. Activity choices include riding Tempe Streetcar, watching an online video tour of Tempe City Hall, reading the city’s Climate Action Plan and writing to a Tempe City Councilmember. The embroidered patch is illustrated with Tempe Town Lake, “A” Mountain and other Tempe features. It was designed by Tempe resident and Girl Scout Lyla Dye, who was a second grader when she was chosen as the winner of the citywide patch design contest held in 2021.

Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid, a former Girl Scout troop leader in Tempe, brought the idea of a Tempe patch to the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC). Garlid expressed gratitude to senior leaders at GSACPC, who have been close partners with Tempe on the effort.
