Top things you can do to be a good neighbor

Say hi
Introduce yourself to your neighbors.  Get to know the people next door and their basic routines. Maybe lend a hand if you see an opportunity. Maybe exchange phone numbers in case there is an emergency.

Celebrate - politely
Let your neighbors know when you’re having a get together.  Be reasonable about noise and music levels. Encourage the people near you to call you first if there’s an issue. Giving your neighbors a heads up goes a long way to building good will.  Don’t forget to check the street after the festivities and pick up after any guests that might have left trash behind.

Fires and Fireworks
Some people have difficulty breathing well. No Burn Days are days that have high amounts of pollution and make breathing even harder. You can help your neighbors by not burning wood on No Burn Days. Check before lighting a bonfire.

Some pets, veterans and kids are afraid of fireworks. Be considerate before shooting them off. Also, check to see which fireworks are legal in Tempe.

Your yard
You’ll earn tons of respect by keeping your yard in good shape and free of weeds and trash. Also, an unkempt yard can receive Code violations that can be expensive.

Parking
Don’t park on sidewalks, in your yard, too close to the corner, or blocking your neighbors’ driveway.  And tell your friends to do the same.  BTW– parking in the wrong direction is a no– no… and an expensive ticket.

Alleys
If you have an alley, keep it clean. It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep the alley behind their house free of trash and weeds, not just homeowners.  The city has a schedule to pick up bulk items.  Check it out and set out your big items accordingly.

Pets
Everyone loves a cute puppy, but understand that it one day will be a grown dog that needs your attention.  No one wants to hear Fido barking all night.

Stay informed
