Learn about our team

The City of Tempe has launched a new park ranger program thanks to a City Council-approved budget for fiscal year 2023-24. Tempe Park Rangers is a new program within the Community Services Department.

These full-time city employees are the community’s connection to our parks, preserves and green spaces. They provide helpful resources and information, as well as education about park rules. They do not carry firearms and they have the ability to issue city citations, though their focus will be on education first.

Tempe had a Park Ranger program many years ago and it was discontinued then due to the types of severe budget cuts that all communities needed to make during the Great Recession. Now, the City Council is bringing back the program with adjustments and improvements to make the service even better.

Rangers can be reached by calling Tempe311 at 480-350-4311 or using the Tempe311 app. Next time you see a park ranger in your city park, say hi!
