Tempe’s Recycle-a-Bicycle program fosters health, development, stewardship and empowerment among at-risk Tempe youth by getting ridable bicycles – donated by the community – into their hands.

The Recycle-a-Bicycle program, a partnership between the City of Tempe and Tempe Elementary School District #3, provides community-donated bicycles to at-risk students at Geneva Epps Mosley Middle School and other schools in the district. Through a popular after-school program, Geneva Epps Mosley students work with a certified teacher and the Tempe Police Department to refurbish the bikes, as well as learn how to repair, maintain and safely ride them.

Tempe Recycle-a-Bicycle instills responsibility and independence, encourages health and physical fitness, promotes a sustainable mode of transportation and develops life skills.

How to help

You can help by donating used, rideable bicycles of all sizes and types including BMX bikes, mountain bikes and beach cruisers. Don’t worry about a flat tire, missing pedal, worn out grips or a broken chain. The kids will learn how to repair bikes. Bicycle parts and stand donations also are appreciated.

DROP-OFF LOCATIONS:

Household Products Collection Center: Visit during operating hours only (1320 E. University Drive).

Zero Waste Days: Visit website for schedule and information.

The Tempe Police Department will also donate bikes through surplus inventory. Special thanks to the Tempe Officers Association for providing seed money for tools and safety equipment, including helmets and lights.
