Tempe History Museum Advisory Board

The Tempe History Museum Advisory Board (formerly the Tempe Historical Museum Advisory Board) was established on June 21, 1984, by Tempe City Ordinance #1079. It was created to assist and advise the City Council and the Community Services Director on matters pertaining to the museum and the Petersen House.  The Advisory Board's major responsibilities include advising on policies concerning the acquisition and use of historic properties and collections, and assisting in the establishment of priorities and policies concerning the historical museum program.

COMMITTEES & REPRESENTATIVES

Diversity Awareness Committee Representative - Julie Syrmopoulos

This committee is charged with bringing a more diverse perspective to the Museum Advisory Board. The committee assists and advises the Tempe Historical Museum with all matters of inclusiveness and diversity, as outlined in the Diversity Action Plan.

Historic Preservation Commission Representative – Dan Killoren

The Historic Preservation representative attends the monthly meetings of the Historic Preservation Commission and reports back to the Historical Museum Advisory Board.

Oral History Committee Representatives - Dan Killoren, Robert McKinley

The Oral History Committee assists and advises the museum staff in managing the oral history program. The committee assists with the formulation of interview questions, develops criteria by which potential candidates are evaluated, identifies potential candidates for interviews and sets priorities for interviews.

Policy, Procedures and Accessions Committee Representative - Anne Chandler

This committee is charged with the establishment and periodic review of collections-related policies and procedures. They evaluate artifacts submitted for donation to the Museum. The committee will evaluate the deaccessioning of any artifact from the Museum collection.

Public Programs Committee Representative – Lisa Roach

This committee is charged with giving input on public programs (educational programs, exhibit programs, and special events), including concept development, planning, implementing, and evaluating such programs.

Tempe Historical Society Representative – Betty Enz

The Tempe Historical Society representative acts as a liaison between the Historical Museum Advisory Board and the Tempe Historical Society Board by attending the Society’s monthly meetings.

Petersen House Endowment Committee – Vacant

This committee is charged with overseeing the Petersen House Endowment Fund.
