School Educational Goals |
|
Bustoz is a school rich with tradition and a history of
academic excellence. Our faculty is dedicated to using the Multiple
Intelligence theories of Howard Gardner to teach all children the
academic and life skills necessary for future success. We have a strong,
committed group of parent volunteers who assist in the classrooms and
support teachers in many ways. In 2003-2004 we celebrated 30 years of
excellence in education. |

Homework |
|
An integral part of the Kid Zone Program is to provide
students with the opportunity to work on homework assignments or other
academic activities. The Kid Zone Program supports each child as he or she
accepts the responsibility of completing homework assignments. Our staff
provides guidance and encouragement to the children during the homework/study
time while serving as resources for learning. Each
day Bustoz Kid Zone provides a homework area. Children may choose to use
this time to complete their homework. If parents would like their child to
participate, they may sign them up on the homework roster. Kid Zone staff
will check this list daily and mark for parents if their child participated. |

Clinics |
|
Clinics are educational activities focusing
on an individual theme or subject. The clinics are planned and taught by our enthusiastic and well
trained staff. These clinics are free and only open to children registered at
Kid Zone. Please check the parent table to sign up for these incredible
clinics. The staff-developed clinics provide
children with several choices each week.
Clinics at Bustoz are done on early
release Fridays. They last for one hour. All children rotate through 2 enrichment clinics that
are based on our theme for the week. |

Enrichment Clubs |
|
Club time at Kid Zone is a time when the
children are separated into smaller groups, usually based on age, to
participate with their peers in age-appropriate activities. As there is an
enormous developmental difference between a kindergartener and a fifth
grader, staff plan activities that are geared towards each developmental
level. Behavior problems are often reduced and children feel more
comfortable in the smaller groups with their peers.
At Bustoz we have staff led in our age appropriate clubs EVERY day! |

Centers |
|
Our goal for centers is to provide a
choice of enriching activities in a planned, structured environment.
Centers are normally child directed that teach and develop skills for
making choices and accepting responsibility. As
an enrichment program, Kid Zone believes that play is an incredibly
important medium of learning. Our staff develop themed lesson plans that
focus on play experiences that enable children to develop and accumulate
their own knowledge. The following are a few examples of what children are
learning at our centers on a daily basis.
-
Creative Play: Developing mobility of thought and practicing cooperation
-
Reading and Listening: Developing
language skills and story comprehension
-
Drawing and Painting: Developing hand-eye
coordination and good self-concept
-
Patterns and Magnet Boards: Developing
classification skills
-
Math: Following mental plans and problem
solving
-
Science: Making generalizations about the
properties of various objects
-
Developing gross motor skills and
learning how to take turns
-
Board games: Learning how to follow
rules, problem solving and working with others.
Daily centers are available all day for
both the Younger Kids Club and Older Kids Club. Each club will offer
enriching center choices based on the theme for the week |

Best Foot Forward |
|
Bustoz Kid Zone encourages physical activity at our site.
If children participated in a physical activity the night before, they may
place a "foot" on our incentive board when their parent arrives. When we
reach 150 feet, we will celebrate with a fitness and nutrition party! |
