Tempe Police Community Public Safety Alert: Attempted Sex Assault

Tempe Police want to alert our community to an attempted sexual assault that occurred early this morning, at approximately 3:00 a.m. in an apartment complex in the 900 block of S. Terrace.

The suspect was a stranger not known to the victim, a 19 year old female ASU student. The suspect entered into the victim’s apartment, and attempted to force sex upon her. During the attack, she was able to fight him off and run from the apartment.

Tempe Police Investigators and Patrol Officers are going door to door, questioning residents in the complex for any information. Tempe Police are working with our partner law enforcement agencies to identify, locate and arrest this suspect. We are working with ASU PD to alert ASU students as well as our larger community about this incident.

As this is a very active investigation, we are providing all of the releasable information that we can at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Suspect Description (please see attached sketch):
>Hispanic male
>Late 40’s, early 50’s
>5’5” Tall, chubby build
>Wearing a red t-shirt with black writing and longer shorts that covered his knees

Tempe Police work year round with the community to provide education and prevent sexual assaults. Tempe police want to remind you to secure and lock doors, windows, gates, garages and vehicles, and to be aware of your surroundings – be observant and on the alert.
