Tempe Police Department, under the leadership of Chief of Police Tom Ryff, has placed the highest emphasis on local and regional partnerships in fighting crime and keeping the community safe: “Along with our partner law enforcement agencies and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the East Valley DUI Task Force made nearly 200 alcohol related arrests in the past week. Our goal is to keep our streets safe for residents and visitors, and to reduce the number of crimes, violence, serious injury and fatal collisions that occur all too often when driving in combined with alcohol and drugs. Tempe has seen a reduction in fatal collisions involving impaired drivers during 2011 and we want to see that positive trend continue in 2012. ”
The most recent targeted DUI enforcement efforts ran from May 25 – May 30. Totals in Tempe specifically during the campaign included (5) Extreme DUIs, (11) DUIs and (1) Drug DUI.
On a positive note, Tempe Police Officers encountered (13) Designated Drivers and there were no citations for Minor in (Alcohol) Consumption.
