Tempe Police Department’s multi-phased Back to School safety campaign continues…

Tempe Police remind Drivers and Cyclists to Share the Road and keep Tempe Bike-Friendly.
Slow down; watch out for pedestrians and cyclists!

As we do each year, officers will be focusing on bicycle and pedestrian outreach and education the first full week that university classes go back into session.  Bike and Pedestrian safety are a priority throughout the year for our entire community, but it is especially important that we reach out to educate students during our Back to School efforts.

Uniformed police officers from Tempe PD's Traffic Bureau will be visiting with pedestrians and cyclists, passing out reminder cards with safety tips as a reminder to obey traffic laws, share the road and keep safe.

Police Outreach is scheduled for Monday August 26 through Wednesday August 28 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. at the following high-volume locations:

*University & Rural
*Apache & Rural
*Apache & McAllister

Key Traffic Safety Points:
*Bicyclists must obey the same traffic laws and rules of the road as vehicles.
*Stop for red lights and stop signs.
*Wear a helmet for safety.
*Be as visible as possible; use a headlamp and rear/reflector taillights.
*Bicycles should ride with the flow of traffic, in the bike lane when one is available.
*Bicycles legally may ride on the sidewalk with the flow of traffic.
*Cross at marked crosswalks whenever possible.
*Stop and look before entering a crosswalk/crossing a road.
*Pedestrians should walk on a sidewalk, facing traffic when possible.
