What do you want Tempe to be like in 30 years?
It’s a very open-ended question, much like all the questions that will be asked of the Tempe community during the next year.
Using Tempe Forum, the City of Tempe will post a series of questions designed to solicit ideas and opinions of those who live, work, study or just enjoy spending time in Tempe. The information will be used to guide and update General Plan 2040.
Tempe Forum is an online, town hall-style place for civic engagement where people may answer questions posed to them by the city or read the comments of others before creating their statements. Tempe Forum is run by Peak Democracy, a non-partisan company whose mission is to broaden civic engagement and build public trust in government.
For those who want to be certain of receiving notice of new General Plan questions, people may visit the city’s website and under calendar, check the box for
General Plan. Another method is to sign up for all Tempe Forum questions by visiting the
Tempe Forum page.
The General Plan is the overarching policy document for the City of Tempe. It holds the community’s vision for the future and is an expression of how the community wants to growth and change over the next 30 years.

Arizona state statutes require each city to adopt a comprehensive, long-range General plan to guide the physical development of the community. On or before the tenth anniversary of the plan’s most recent adoption, the city is required to either re-adopt the existing plan or adopt a new General Plan and take the document back to the ballot for public ratification by majority affirmative vote. Tempe voters will have the chance to vote on this plan in 2013.
