480 858-2059 ranked Tempe as one of the top 50 places in America to live.

Coming in at 43 in their annual Top 100 Places to Live listing, Tempe ranked higher than any other Arizona city. Scottsdale came in second at 89. No other Arizona city was included in the top 100.

“We are honored to be recognized by Livability. The City of Tempe strives to provide the best possible community for its residents,” said Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell.

Reasons Tempe excelled, according to the website, included the city’s educational opportunities, such as the city’s K-12 systems, as well as Arizona State University, Maricopa County Community College District and University of Advancing Technology. Tempe scored an 86 while the national average was 40.

The second top score for the city was for its amenities, such as Tempe Town Lake, Mill Avenue and Tempe Center for the Arts. Tempe again scored 86, with the national average being 46.

Tempe also scored high in transportation and infrastructure and social and civic capital. The social aspect measured activities such as voter participation and the amount of time people spend partaking in community functions.

“The cities on our list are working hard on their towns and investing in their communities. They’re working to attract and keep people who don’t just contribute to a community, but who engage with it. They’re developing spaces where people can work and play together, and collaborate and create together as well as living together,” according to the ranking criteria on Livability.

“The payoffs can be seen in the thriving downtowns, vibrant economies, as well as in the all-important church basements and ice cream socials,” the site added.

Tempe was also honored this year as one of the country’s top 9 affordable vacation spots by as well as Most Affordable, Fun Cities two years in a row.
