Tempe Police Department
The Tempe Police Department, working in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety under the leadership of Director Alberto Gutier, will be out in force on May 24, 25 and 26 to impact impaired driving during the Memorial Day weekend celebrations.
In addition to the holiday which honors the men and women of the armed forces who died in service of our country, there will also be several high school graduations over the weekend.
Patrol Units and Motor Officers will be very visible across Tempe and the downtown district, in addition to assuring that the entire city is safely patrolled. Youth alcohol prevention and enforcement will be a priority.
Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff stated, “DUI enforcement has always been a top priority for Tempe PD. The members of the Police Department’s Traffic Bureau and our partner agencies do outstanding work in a high-risk environment keeping our streets and community safe.”
The Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control, reports that alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone in the United States every 48 minutes.
Tempe Police remind you to make the right decision and stick to it…if you are going to drink, don’t drive. Pre-program the number of a taxi service into your phone. Identify a designated driver, take a cab, light rail or call a friend.
