Tempe, Ariz. – The Kiwanis Club of Tempe is working to bring a new playground to Kiwanis Park – and they need your help!
Kiwanis International has recently opened voting for the “Make a Difference through Play” contest, which grants a community $25,000 in new playground equipment. The KCOT entered Tempe’s Kiwanis Park as an entrant for the contest and Tempe community members and friends can go online and vote to help Kiwanis Park receive new playground equipment.
Voting for the contest is done through Facebook and ends on Saturday, June 15. Participants can vote once per day. It is suggested that voting be done on a desktop or laptop computer, as the voting application does not work with mobile or tablet devices.

In the early 1970s, the Kiwanis Club of Tempe worked with the City of Tempe to provide seed money to help purchase developer-owned land to create a 125-acre park in the southwest part of the city. Complete with a 10-acre fish-stocked lagoon and Sister City Gardens, Kiwanis Park also includes softball/baseball fields, a swimming complex and recreation center, family and corporate picnic facilities, tennis courts, soccer fields and play areas.
Working with other Tempe Kiwanis clubs, in 1980 KCOT donated additional dollars to purchase and install playground equipment in Kiwanis Park. Now, much of the equipment has been removed for safety reasons. A couple of pieces remain, but desperately need to be replaced.
