TEMPE, Ariz. – The Gallery at Tempe Center for the Arts is making available a new three-lesson, online unit plan designed for use with Green Revolution, a collaborative project that combines the arts and sciences while teaching community members about "going green" in Arizona. Download
The lessons, called “Going Green,” are intended to deepen and enlighten the art appreciation experiences of elementary and secondary school students and were created by the Gallery along with Arizona State University Professor Mary Erickson, Ph.D.
“Education, outreach and dialog are important missions of the Gallery at TCA,” Coordinator Michelle Nichols-Dock said. “Combining easy-to-use, comprehensive materials with a visit to the Tempe Center for the Arts provides youth with a realistic art education experience.”
The curriculum unit and accompanying outreach programs for the exhibition were funded through the city of Tempe and grants from the Friends of TCA and SRP. Green Revolution is based on an exhibition originally created by the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry and its Black Creativity Council and is made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.
About the exhibition
This eco-friendly, green-themed exhibition is on display through May 25 at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, and engages visitors by addressing critical environmental issues concerning the local community. Tempe worked with local artists and organizations to create an interactive exhibition that is free.
