CARE 7 opens recruitment for volunteers once a year, generally in the spring. Those wishing to become a CARE 7 volunteer attend a two-hour orientation. Potential volunteers then complete a written application, an interview, a reference check, and a statewide criminal background check. If these steps are completed successfully, the new volunteer then attends a series of evening training courses. The training covers topics and situations that are frequently encountered by CARE 7 staff and volunteers.
Training includes:
- Crisis Intervention Skills & Critical Incident Stress Management
- Death Notification & Grief Support
- Domestic Violence
- Substance Abuse
- Diversity & Homelessness
- Mental Illness Overview & Self Harm
- Sexual Assault & Special Populations
- Suicide Intervention & Grief after Suicide
