Artists Phyllis Steele, of Tempe, and Mary Bates Neubauer, of Chandler, portray details and facets of nature in “Something in the Details,” a new installation on display from Aug. 3-Dec. 2 at the Connections Café in the Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road.
This exhibition draws attention to the beauty and stories held within ordinary objects and scenes. Both artists depict their chosen subject matter with precise detail. Steele renders everyday objects in nature in a life-like, almost trompe-l’oeil manner, and Neubauer uses computers and surface mapping to create a mathematical abstraction of the images found in the Arizona desert.
