Cesar Chavez

Annual Cesar E. Chavez Coloring Contest

The City of Tempe formally recognizes March 31st as an official holiday in honor of Cesar Chavez.  Each year the Diversity Department partners with a selected Tempe Elementary School to sponsor a coloring contest for the students.  The purpose of the coloring contest is to further educate students about the life of Cesar Chavez, a true public servant.  The Diversity Department provides the teachers with a lesson packet to assist them in educating the children on Cesar Chavez' service and calling.  The children are then encouraged to think about their own public service calling while reinforcing the importance of others.  Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in the coloring contest and two winners are selected per grade level.
