The Crime Prevention Unit's goal is to collaborate with and educate community members, and together prevent, mitigate, and solve problems for neighborhoods, community groups and businesses. The Crime Prevention Unit consists of a team of Police Officers and Civilian employees dedicated to specific areas of the City.

Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
Crime Free Multi-Housing training is a one-day educational program on keeping tenants and staff safe, applicant screenings, rental agreements, identification of illegal activity, eviction processes and tenant rights, roles of working with police, inspections, and proactive property management. For future training dates, please contact CFMH@tempe.gov.
Neighborhood Watch
Partnerships with neighbors are among the best defenses against crime. Neighborhood Watch is a cooperative effort between your individual neighborhood and Tempe Police. Neighborhoods can select a "Block Captain" who coordinates information and acts as a liaison with police. The program encourages neighbors to get to know each other, to help prevent and protect against criminal activity.
Internet Transaction Location
Buying or selling an item on the internet? Planning to meet a stranger to exchange an item for cash? The City of Tempe has established a location under video surveillance for anyone wishing to meet in a neutral public area.Police Headquarters Lobby, 120 E. Fifth Street, Tempe, AZ 85281. Parking across the street, S/W corner of 5th and Forest, 1st hour free. 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. As with all City facilities, no weapons, hazardous materials, illegal drugs, or animals (except service animals) allowed. City employees are prohibited from providing advice on transaction items, researching criminal history or acting as witnesses for transactions.
G.A.I.N. - Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods
Tempe's annual citywide Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods (GAIN) event is designed to foster community safety and connections. Formerly known as National Night Out, GAIN encourages residents to get together in your respective neighborhoods to promote safety, communication and celebrate the successes of crime prevention through community involvement.
