The Community Development Department plans the long
range future of Tempe land for transportation corridors, business districts and
residential areas. Bringing together unique skill sets, the department focuses
on sustainable development, urban open space planning, historic preservation and
job attraction. It also administers federal grant programs for housing, social
services and capital improvements. Under the direction of Chris Salomone, the
Community Development Department consists

ASU-TEMPE JOINT REVIEW COMMITTEE
The Joint Review
Committee has been created for the purpose of reviewing and making decisions
and recommendations on development actions in lieu of the Board of Adjustment
and Development Review Commission for Mixed Use projects in the MU-Ed Zoning
District.

+ LAKE DISTRICT PLACEMAKING GUIDELINES
A PLAN FOR TEMPE'S URBAN OPEN SPACES
This plan includes
a detailed assessment of the evolving open space needs of the Papago
Park, Town Lake and Mill Avenue District areas including pocket / urban /
historic parks, Light Rail Transit access / connectivity, urban streetscapes,
green streets, pedestrian trails, bikepaths, wayfinding, linkages, maintenance
standards and funding mechanisms.

3D is an illustrated
history of the rebirth and regeneration of Downtown Tempe as the functional
and symbolic heart of the community. It is intended that this Guide, in addition
to chronicling Tempe's redevelopment efforts and plans to-date, will be a
primer for future successes.

These Principles include an outline of the Issues,

The TCVB's online guide to contemporary architecture,
such as the inverted pyramid that is Tempe City Hall, the birthday cake-like
appearance of ASU Gammage designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and the ASU Art Museum
at the Nelson Fine Arts Center, designed by Antoine Predock, illustrate Tempe’s
affinity for unusual and beautiful architecture.
