Volunteers in Policing

The mission of the Tempe Volunteers in Policing (V.I.P.) program is to expand and enhance the services that the Tempe Police Department provides to the citizens of Tempe. There are currently more than 125 volunteers involved in every area of the police department.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, including students, retirees, and full-time employees. The goal of many volunteers is to give back to their community in a very special way. Some volunteers are also working to complete college credit or explore future career possibilities. They generously give of their time in many areas (link here for volunteer opportunities), including the Tempe Police Bagpipe Band , assisting with K-9 and Mounted Patrol, providing interpreting skills, computer and data entry, or helping patrol with traffic control and disabled parking enforcement through Motorist Services and more. Our Tours Program is run by volunteers and is available for interested citizens. The time given by our volunteers allows officers and staff to devote their time to the work they are trained to do, which provides a significant and greatly valued contribution to the Tempe Police Department and the Tempe community. The VIP program is always looking for volunteers to match with Programs and Current Volunteer Opportunities.
