Tempe Municipal Government Volunteer Program

Looking to volunteer, but don't have the time to make a permanent commitment? Listed below are one-day volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups with the City of Tempe. All volunteers must register with the Volunteer Coordinator at 480-350-5190 before participating.

Check back from time to time as activities may be added, reopen or close. You can also request to be placed on the wait list for "filled" activities.

FEBRUARY 2015

​MARCH 2015


Youth Basketball Clinic and Tournament, March 5,6,7,14,21 (times vary, call for details)--OPEN 
   
Serve as a door greeter and assist coaches with teaching children basketball fundamentals and skill building activities.
   Duties will be assigned keeping your skills and desires in mind so don't hesitate volunteering for this fun activity for
   youth and their hoops.

Fabulous Friday Social Dance, Friday, March 13, 5:30p-9:30p (3 volunteers needed) --FILLED

   Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, collect door fees, serve refreshments and interact with special needs 
   teens and adults at their monthly dance that's just for them!  This month's theme is St. Patrick's Day.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration at Escalante Center, Tuesday, March 17, 3p-6p (8 vol. needed)--FILLED
   Get you lucky on and help at the fun St. Patrick's Day celebration with food, crafts and shamrocks.

Free Arts Friday at Vihel Activity Bldg, Friday, March 20, 9a-noon (10 volunteers)--FILLED
   ​Volunteers assist the children with their crafts and activities. Theme for the day is 'Meet the Masters'. Volunteers have
   as much fun as the children!

Preschool Book Fair at Escalante Center, Friday, March 20, 10:30a-1:30p (6 volunteers needed)--OPEN
  
Volunteers will help with set-up of tables/chairs, run make-and-take craft booths, hand out snack and juice, man
 an information table, take picture and finish with clean-up after event. 

Library Shelf Maintenance, Saturday, March 21, 9a-noon (15 volunteers needed)--FILLED
   Volunteers help straighten, clean and maintain order of the Library shelves.

Tempe Festival of the Arts, Friday-Sunday, March 27-29 (positions and time varied) --OPEN
   This volunteer opportunity will embrace both individuals and nonprofit organizations. All volunteers share in the
   opportunity to provide meaningful service, develop new friendships and participate in a well-loved community event.

APRIL 2015

Karaoke & Game Night, Friday, April 3, 5:30p-9:30p (2 volunteers needed)--OPEN
    Volunteers needed to help run karaoke and Wii games at this fun night for teens and adults with special needs.

Egg Hunt at Escalante, Saturday, April 4, 8a-12:30p (30 volunteers needed)--FILLED,Thank You EVBSC 
   Escalante's annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt needs your help. Do you like to hide Easter Eggs and help young 
   ones find them?  Then this is your volunteer assignment.

Family Bingo Night, Escalante Center, Thursday, April 9, 3p-5:30p (4 volunteers needed)--OPEN 
   Help call Bingo, assist the young ones in the group and generally just have a good time along with the Bingo crowd.

Zero Waste Day at the Tempe Fire Training Center, Saturday, April 18, 7a-1p (15 volunteers)--OPEN
   
Help receive recyclable items from Tempe residents. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. 

Library Shelf Maintenance, Saturday, April 25, 9a-noon (15 volunteers needed)--OPEN
   
Volunteers help straighten, clean and maintain order of the Library shelves.


MAY 2015

Bingo Night, Friday, May 1, 5:30p-9:30p (1 volunteer needed)--OPEN 
   
Volunteers needed to help run Bingo at this fun night for teens and adults with special needs.

Mother's Day Luncheon, Friday, May 8, 10:30a-1:00p at the Cahill Senior Center--OPEN
Volunteers are needed to provide manicures (filing and polish) to the ladies attending the Luncheon. No professional experience needed!

Free Arts Friday at Vihel Activity Bldg, Friday, May 15, 9a-noon (10 volunteers)--OPEN
   ​Volunteers assist the children with their crafts and activities. Theme for the day is 'Out of this World'. Volunteers have
   as much fun as the children!
