Tempe Municipal Government Volunteer Program

Looking to volunteer, but don't have the time to make a permanent commitment? Listed below are one-day volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups with the City of Tempe. All volunteers must register with the Volunteer Coordinator at 480-350-5190 before participating.

Check back from time to time as activities may be added, reopen or close. You can also request to be placed on the wait list for "filled" activities.

CALENDAR OF ONE-TIME ACTIVITIES

 

OCTOBER 2014

Halloween Bag Stuffing (5 volunteers) --OPEN
   Thursday, October 23, 11:30-12:30   
If you are a willing Halloween bag stuffer, we need YOU! Bags will be stuffed with candy and trinkets for the children     who are attending the Kiwanis Park Halloween Party.

Free Arts Friday/Hilarious Halloween (10-12 volunteers)--filled, thank you New School for the Arts
    Friday, October 24, 9a-noon at the Vihel Activity Bldg.
Volunteers are needed to help run craft and other activities, as well as serve refreshments at this fun, free activity for preschool-age children.

Halloween Adventure (40 volunteers needed)--filled, thank you volunteers & University of Phoenix
    Friday, October 24, 2-6:00p or 5:30-9p at the Escalante Center
Volunteer duties will include setting up booths, food, games, ticket taking and clean-up, not to mention having a fun time doing!

Kiwanis Park Halloween Carnival--OPEN
    Saturday, October 25, 4:30-9:30p at the Kiwanis Park
What a fun and crazy evening and you can be a part of it...by volunteering! Volunteers may assist staff by helping out at the numerous bounce houses, inflatables, train, slide, stage and ticket booth. Don't miss out. 

​NOVEMBER 2014

 

Always wanted to ACT but didn't have the opportunity? (OPEN)
   Saturday, November 1, any two hours between 3p and 8p

During the ASU Homecoming Block Party a volunteer is needed to wear the ERIC-turtle-mascot costume and interact with the party crowd, hand out recyclable information and items. It will be fun!! 

Family Bingo Night (OPEN)
    Friday November 7, 5-8p at the Escalante Center
Volunteers needed to assist with a family Bingo night. You can't go wrong volunteering here.

Tempe Sound Exhibit Opening--filled, Thank You Hamilton High School Red Cross
   Friday, November 14 at the Tempe History Museum 4:15p-8:30p
    The Museum will be opening its next new exhibit, "Tempe Sound". The exhibit is all about the history of music in             Tempe and promises to be a huge opening. Volunteers will assist with crowd control, trash pick-up, door greeters and
    set-up and tear-down. 

Fabulous Friday Social Dance (2-3 volunteers)--filled, thank you volunteers
Friday, November 14, 5:30p-9:15p at the Vihel Activity Bldg.

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, collect door fees, serve refreshments and interact with special needs teens and adults at their monthly dance that's just for them! It's fun for you and them.

Shelf Maintenance Project (OPEN)
    Tuesday, November 18,  4:00p - 8:00p at the Tempe Public Library
Volunteers will help by dusting, cleaning and maintaining good shelf order. It's a big library and this job is a necessity and much more fun than you would think. 

Shelf Maintenance Project (12 volunteers)--filled, thank you First Baptist Church of Tempe
    Saturday, November 22, 8:30a- 11:30p at the Tempe Public Library
Volunteers will help by dusting, cleaning and maintaining good shelf order. It's a big library and this job is a necessity.

DECEMBER 2014

Free Arts Friday/Family Fun Factory (OPEN) 
    Friday, December 5, 9a-noon at the Vihel Activity Bldg.
Volunteers are needed to help run craft and other activities, as well as serve refreshments at this fun, free activity for preschool-age children.

Holiday Tea (OPEN)
    Friday, December 5, noon to 5p at the Cahill Senior Center

Volunteers are needed to help serve at a holiday tea. This event is attended predominantly by women. Servers are asked to wear white shirts and black pants and will be provided a holiday apron. It's a festive atmosphere and you can help make a senior's day special. 

Karaoke Game Night -- filled
    Friday, December 5, 6:00p-9:00p at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center
Volunteers needed to help run karaoke or Wii games at this fun night for teens and adults with special needs.

Shelf Maintenance Project (OPEN)
    Tuesday, December 9,  4:00p - 8:00p at the Tempe Public Library
Volunteers will help by dusting, cleaning and maintaining good shelf order. It's a big library and this job is a necessity and much more fun than you would think. 

Winter Wonderland for Preschoolers (OPEN)
    Friday, December 12, 10a - 2p at the Escalante Center
Volunteers will help with decorating, running crafts, handing out snacks and general set-up and clean-up after the event.

Winter Wonderland for Youth --filled, thank you volunteers 
    Friday, December 12, 2-4:30p or 4:30-6p at the Escalante Center
Volunteers needed to assist with wintry, fun activities for youth. Set-up and clean-up included. 

Shelf Maintenance Project -- filled, thank you East Valley Boys Service Club
   Saturday, December 13, 10:30a- 12:30p at the Tempe Public Library
Volunteers will help by dusting, cleaning and maintaining good shelf order. It's a big library and this job is a necessity.

Swimming with Santa--OPEN
   Set-up for event, Monday, December 22, 10a-1p at the Kiwanis Recreation Center
   Event: Saturday and Sunday, December 27 & 28, 12:30p-3p OR 3p-6p at the Kiwanis Recreation Center
Volunteers on December 22 need to be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Event volunteers will assist the event coordinators at the check-in table, refreshment table, raffle prize winners and announcements, photo booth and help maintain order when the children are talking and interacting with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
