Whether your interested in learning how to kayak for the first time, brushing up on your skills or taking your skills to the next level, we have the class for you! The City of Tempe offers several kayaking opportunities for youth and adults as well as novices and experienced paddlers.

Boom Kayak
Are you looking for a fun way to stay active and beat the weekend warriors? Join us during the week and our certified instructors will focus on physical fitness and basic stroke technique in a low-stress/low-impact fun environment. Fee: $30. 480-350-8069

Kayak Fitness (18years+)
This is a perfect class for beginner to intermediate paddlers. Geared toward on-the-water fitness and games with a focus on basic strokes and maneuvers, it's the perfect mix of on-the-water fun and fitness. Kayak, personal floatation device and paddle are provided. Fee: $70. 480-350-8069

Essentials of Kayak Touring (18years+)
This class has been developed by ACA certified kayak instructors and is appropriate for all levels of experience. Taught in touring boats (sea kayaks), with a focus on advanced stroke techniques, maneuvers, kayak fitness and rescues, this class will challenge you to learn and refine your skills in a fun and low pressure environment. Half-Day Kayaking Trip to Canyon Lake
Apply what you learned from Kayak Fitness or Essentials of Kayak Touring in this half-day trip to Canyon Lake. Space is limited and this class will fill up quickly. Your instructor will need to sign off on your skills and ability prior to the trip. All necessary boating equipment and a travel to and from the lake will be provided. 480-350-8069

Glow Kayak (10years+)
The wildest and brightest Glow Paddle on Tempe Town Lake. Join us for a night under the stars while we glow and glide across the water. In addition to all necessary kayaking equipment, participants will receive glow in the dark accessories. Feel free to wear glow in the dark clothing items that you don’t mind getting wet. Youth ages 10-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Register early. Fee: $35. Youth Ages 10-17 Fee: $20. Space is limited and you must register in advance. 480-350-8069

Moonlight Kayak
Spend an enjoyable evening on Tempe Town Lake while paddling in the moonlight. No experience necessary. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting wet, a towel, dry clothes and prepare to howl at the moon! All necessary equipment will be provided. Must be 18 years or older to participate. Fee: $30. Space is limited and you must register in advance. 480-350-8069

What to Bring and Wear for a Paddling Day 

What to wear:
Clothing that the participants do not mind getting wet.
Some sort of water shoes or sneakers the participants do not mind getting wet. Sandals are permissible as long as they are not open back, flip-flop type sandals.
Hats or Visors
Loose fitting comfortable t-shirt. Depending on the participants sun tolerance they may want to wear an SPF coated top shirt, or a long sleeve t-shirt.
If a participant wants to wear long pants, it is permissible, however they should not be cotton or denim, they should be Polyester or Lycra.
Not Allowed:  Jeans of any kind, including Jean shorts
Long pants that are non-athletic type pants; jeans, cotton or corduroy are not allowed. Hiking boots or dress shoes
