Community Safety
Nearly 500 police employees and more than 150 firefighters and staff help keep Tempe safe.

The contributions of these men and women range from patrolling Tempe streets to criminal investigations, from teaching residents how to reduce the chance of crime at their business to helping the Homeland Security Office protect the community from terrorists.

Tempe police has a Slumlord Task Force designed to reduce crime and improve housing.

Tempe’s firefighters are all certified emergency medical technicians and hazardous materials First Responders. The current average response time is just more than 4 minutes. An additional fire station is planned, which will shorten that time to about 3.5 minutes.
